Autumn at Arkansas Photography Contest Runs Oct. 14 To Nov. 4
Fall in Fayetteville is a time unlike any other. As the leaves change from green to golden yellow and burnt orange the campus becomes more beautiful than ever. In an effort to celebrate this change the Division of Student Affairs will be hosting the Autumn at Arkansas Photo Contest from Oct. 14 to Nov. 4.
Nia Smith, graduate assistant for social media in Student Affairs, was inspired to create this competition to showcase the beauty of the campus.
“I thought it would be a great idea to have the students capture our campus at such a beautiful transitional state,” Smith said “It’s naturally beautiful here all the time, but it’s simply breathtaking at the beginning of the fall season. I thought this would be a great way for students to admire and appreciate the sights of the YOU of A.”
Students will be challenged to capture what they feel to be the most attractive fall sites on campus, via smartphone or camera. Photos may be edited to student’s desire and then posted to twitter and/or Instagram using the contest hashtag #AutumnAtArkansas, #YouofA, and tagging @ua4student. Students will need to keep the original photos on file.
“While we encourage students to take lots of photos there will be a limit of three photo submissions per student,” Smith said. “Students maintain all photo rights, however all right of use are also granted to the University of Arkansas.”
Submitted photos will be judged by university staff members specializing in photography. The grand prize winner will receive a $50 gift card to the University of Arkansas Bookstore. The gift card is good at any retail location operated by the bookstore including the Parking Spot in Harmon Parking Garage, where there is a photo processing kiosk students can have photos printed from their digital media (flash drive, camera card), or via a Bluetooth connected device. Photos can be turned around the same day and most orders can be printed while customers wait.
In addition to the big prize, small prizes will be awarded throughout the contest. The winner may also have their photo featured in a university publication or web site.
