Homecoming 2013 Week of Events

Homecoming Week 2013 has arrived and festivities to celebrate the occasion will be occurring throughout the week on campus. The theme this year is “Super Hogs.”

Kicking off the pre-Homecoming week of events was a drive to collect food for the Full Circle Campus Food Pantry. Included in the Homecoming competition, 14,466 food items were donated, including more than 1,000 boxes of Macaroni & Cheese which is one of the “most needed” items at the pantry. Apart from the food drive was the annual American Red Cross Blood Drive on Oct. 2 and 3. First place in the Blood Drive went to Kappa Alpha Psi, Kappa Alpha Order, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Zeta Tau Alpha.

On Oct. 9, Homecoming participants will challenge one another in a Homecoming Cook-Off at the Union Mall and on Thursday, Oct. 10, students can attend the annual Homecoming Talent Show at the Union Theatre.

In an effort to show appreciation for the troops, on the eve of Homecoming, Friday, Oct. 11, student can participate in Hogs for Heroes at the Union Mall. This event will include stuffing and labeling care packages to send to Arkansas troops deployed in the Horn of Africa. Those who wish to participate may write thank you notes and personal letters to the soldiers. Other events occurring that day include the Lawn Decorating Competition, Arkansas Alumni Awards Banquet and the ever popular Dickson Street Parade at 6 p.m. followed by the Homecoming Pep Rally at the Chi Omega Greek Theatre at 7:30 p.m. All of the events lead up to the matchup between the Arkansas Razorback and South Carolina Gamecocks at 11:21 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.
