Geosciences Hosts Series of Employer Information Sessions
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The department of geosciences in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences hosted employees from Devon Energy Corp. last week. The recruiters were on campus to talk with students about potential internship and career opportunities. The department will also hold sessions with representatives from Chesapeake Energy and Southwestern Energy in September.
Employer Information Sessions are collaborations among departments, colleges and the University of Arkansas Career Development Center in the Division of Student Affairs designed to help businesses that are recruiting on campus develop name recognition among University of Arkansas students.
"These events give recruiters the opportunity to get to know our students," said Ralph Davis, chair of the department of geosciences. "They also help students understand the differences between various corporations as well as the breadth of career opportunities within the field."
Future Geoscience Employer Information Sessions include:
-
Chesapeake Energy Corporation
Wednesday, Sept. 11
6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Ozark Hall, room 102 -
Southwestern Energy Company
Tuesday, Sept. 24
6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Ozark Hall, room 102
The recruiters will also hold interviews with selected applicants the day following each Employer Information Session. Devon Energy interviewed 14 students for internships and permanent positions during their visit.
Many companies have forged a relationship with the department of geosciences from years of successful matches of students with potential employers. The reputation of the department's students and faculty coupled with the university's proximity to these businesses operate in tandem to produce these successful long-term collaborations.
