Each year, the University Libraries’ special collections recognizes Arkansas’ cultural and natural heritage during Arkansas Heritage Month with an exhibit. This year’s theme is “Saving our Heritage, Arkansas’s Historic Structures.”

The built environment can serve as a rich and potent record of our history. This year’s exhibit features photographs and other documentation recording some of the diverse structures that have contributed to our distinct built environment. Some, such as the University of Arkansas’ Carlson Terrace complex by world recognized and Fayetteville-born architect Edward Durell Stone, have already been lost. Others remain at risk, while some like the Sarah Ridge House have been the beneficiaries of thoughtful preservation.

Discover how these structures have contributed to Arkansas history. Visit the special collections department on Level 1 of Mullins Library to view the exhibit.
