Professor-Son Team Wins Prize in Arkansas Stock Market Game
Jackson, left, and Jason Endacott pick up the prize for first place in a division of the Arkansas Stock Market Game on May 1 in Little Rock.
University of Arkansas professor Jason Endacott recruited his 9-year-old son, Jackson, when he wanted help recently to compete in the Arkansas Council for Economic Education Stock Market Game. It was a good move; the stocks Jackson picked for buying and selling were winners, resulting in a 20 percent return on a hypothetical $100,000 investment.
“He beat the next adult in the state by $12,000,” according to the proud father, who is an assistant professor of secondary social studies education in the College of Education and Health Professions. “He beat the average market return by 7 percent.”
The Endacotts won the adult/teacher division of the competition. They were invited to a luncheon in Little Rock for all the winners of the competition, which also included elementary school, middle school and high school divisions. Jackson is a third-grade student at Butterfield Trail Elementary in Fayetteville.
“I teach my pre-service interns about the stock market game since it fits well with the economic education aspect of our social studies methods courses,” Endacott said.
Endacott said his son plans to attend the University of Arkansas.
