Former Arkansas Law Dean Elected to International Labor Law Board

Professor and Dean emeritus Robert Moberly has been elected to the Executive Board of the U.S. Branch of the International Society for Labor Law and Social Security. The International Society for Labor and Social Security Law comprises leading scholars and practitioners promoting the international exchange of ideas among exerts in the fields of Labor Law and Social Security. The U.S. Branch of the International Society for Labor and Social Security Law also sponsors the Comparative Labor Law and Policy Journal, the preeminent scholarly journal in this field.

“It is an honor to serve on the Board of the ISLSSL,” Moberly said. “Promoting a greater understanding of international labor laws is incredibly important in an increasingly interconnected global economy.”

“I speak on behalf of the entire law school community when I say that we are extremely proud of professor Moberly’s work,” said Stacy Leeds, dean of the University of Arkansas School of Law. “He will serve the Executive Board well, given his leadership skills, and we are delighted to see so many of our faculty colleagues recognize the importance of international outreach.”

Moberly teaches courses in alternative dispute resolution and labor arbitration. During his deanship, the Law School hired several faculty members with international expertise and initiated summer abroad programs at Cambridge University in England and St. Petersburg State University in Russia. He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin. Prior to his service as dean of the University of Arkansas School of Law, he was a trustee research fellow and professor of law at the University of Florida, where he was the founding director of the Institute for Dispute Resolution.

His other appointments include visiting professorships at the University of Illinois; the University of Louvain, Belgium; and the Polish Academy of Sciences. He served as a law clerk on the Wisconsin Supreme Court and was a labor attorney in government and private practice.

Moberly’s impressive record of scholarship and service includes co-authoring two books and publishing more than 30 scholarly articles. He served on the Arkansas Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission from 2006-11 as well as on the Board of Governors of the National Academy of Arbitrators. He chaired the Alternative Dispute Resolution and Labor Law Sections of the Association of American Law Schools, and is a member of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.
