This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: March 26-29

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will hold several events in the coming week including concerts, art exhibitions, a reception and guest lectures. Although there are fewer events being held as we return from spring break, students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these on-campus performances in the visual and performing arts.

Guest artist Leonardo Drew, known for his dynamic large-scale sculptural installations, will present a lecture at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Tuesday, Matthew Sharp will give a euphonium recital at 7:30 in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Guest poet Rodney Jones, a professor and distinguished scholar emeritus at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, will read from his work at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in Giffels Auditorium in Old Main. Jones has been published in eight editions of The Best American Poetry and has won many awards for his writing.

Guest artist Kenda North, a professor and head of the department of photography at the University of Texas at Arlington, will give a lecture at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in room 214 of the Fine Arts Center. The lecture will follow a reception in the Fine Arts Center Gallery at 5:30.

Also on Thursday, Alex Badour will conduct fellow students in the department of music for his graduate conducting recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Guest artist Ratko Delorko will give a piano recital at 8 p.m. Friday, March 29, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Ongoing art exhibitions include Submerged and Jewish Studies Beyond the Holocaust.

Submerged, a solo photography exhibition by Kenda North will be on display in the Fine Arts Center Gallery until Thursday, March 28. The exhibit features photography that studies light and color beneath the water’s surface and the experience of being submerged.

As part of the Beyond the Holocaust series, an exhibit titled Jewish Studies Beyond the Holocaust: Arkansas, History and the World will be on display in the Helen Robson Walton Reading Room in Mullins Library until Saturday, April 20.
