This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: March 1-8

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will hold several events in the coming week including a play, concerts, an art exhibition, and workshops. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these on-campus and off-campus performances in the visual and performing arts.

Amy Porter will present a flute masterclass at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 3, followed by a recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 4, both in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Monday, the Campus Band and Wind Symphony will give a concert featuring guest artist Joseph Alessi at 7:30 p.m. in the Walton Arts Center’s Baum Walker Concert Hall. General admission is $5 and $1 for students.

The university’s Concert Band and Wind Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, also featuring guest trombonist Joseph Alessi. The performance is in the Walton Arts Center’s Baum Walker Concert Hall. General admission is $5 and $1 for students.

Also on March 5, guest artist Dennis O’Neil will give a lecture on screen printing at 6:30 p.m. in room 213 of the Fine Arts Center. He will also present a three-hour screen printing workshop at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in the Fine Arts Center’s printmaking studio.

Guest artists Redekopp and Edwards will give a piano recital at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The University of Arkansas Schola Cantorum will present their Flowers in Springtime concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. An encore performance may be seen at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 8, at the First United Methodist Church in Bentonville.

Ongoing events include A Streetcar Named Desire and Jewish Studies Beyond the Holocaust.

The University Theatre will continue its run of A Streetcar Named Desire until Sunday, March 3. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. and Sunday performances are at 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center’s University Theatre.

As part of the Beyond the Holocaust series, an exhibit titled Jewish Studies Beyond the Holocaust: Arkansas, History and the World will be on display in the Helen Robson Walton Reading Room in Mullins Library until Saturday, April 20.
