New Registered Student Organization Is Pure Charity

Pure Charity U of A is a registered student organization based off of the national organization called Pure Charity, which is based out of Rogers, Ark. What Pure Charity does is encourage and create a movement of generosity by connecting users to nonprofits locally and throughout the world.

Since beginning around two years ago, Pure Charity has been expanding and a part of that expansion is to campuses in the United States. Being so close to Rogers, University of Arkansas was one of eight schools selected to start this movement. This is really unique and special to have the founders so close and such a beneficial opportunity for this campus.

Pure Charity has two “campus catalyst” that started this movement on campus, Chris Wooden, sophomore, and Hannah King, a senior. The student organization has had two events so far, Random Acts of Kindness Day and Generous Tuesday. On Random Acts of Kindness Day, the members set the day aside to do kind things for people across campus while also encouraging those people to pass the kindness on. These included buying Starbucks for people, handing out study snacks in the library, and handing out waters and oranges at the Homecoming 5K.

On Generous Tuesday the members wanted people to be reminded what the holiday season was about. They went from the shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday to encouraging a generous spirit with Generous Tuesday on Nov. 27.

Pure Charity’s goal for Generous Tuesday was to impact 1 million lives by the end of 2012. We can achieve this from giving hearts all across the world. As a student organization, Pure Charity U of A hopes to bring a wave of generous living to the U of A campus by getting students plugged in with purecharity.com and finding ways to give to those less fortunate than us.

The RSO will really be kicking off in the spring semester with more awareness and fundraising events. Members will also probably have a few more Random Acts of Kindness Day. Their main hope is that students will see that there are many ways a person can give — even when your pockets are thin — and to realize the impact each individual can have on the world and in people’s lives.

If you have a heart for people, whether it is locally and/or globally, email the organization at purecharityarkansas@gmail.com to find out how you can be plugged in and learn more about Pure Charity. The University of Arkansas has already impacted over 500 lives with only 18 people, imagine how many lives they could impact with over 20,000.
