University Celebrates International Education Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – International education week is in full swing at the University of Arkansas, which is home to more than 1,200 students from 115 countries. The international education week celebration offers activities for cultural learning and community involvement, most of which are free and open to the public.
On Monday, Gov. Mike Beebe declared Nov. 12-17 international education week in Arkansas to kick off the festivities. The international bazaar on Monday featured colorful and varied national clothing worn by international students, as well as examples of national cuisines.
Wednesday, Nov. 14 the university’s Muslim students association will host Islamic awareness day from noon-5 p.m. in the International Connections Lounge.
On Thursday, Nov. 15 the Graduate School will present a panel discussion on international students’ educational experiences from 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. in Arkansas Union rooms 507-509. Also on Thursday, a Korean cultural presentation will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Multicultural Center in the Arkansas Union.
At 12:20 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16 students will launch a “Gangnam style” flash mob dance in the Arkansas Union International Connections Lounge.
Also on Friday, U of A’s students from Saudi Arabia will put on an open house and exhibition from noon-6 p.m. in the Multicultural Center, which continues on Saturday from 3-5 p.m.. This is followed by a show produced by the Saudi Arabian student organization from 5-8 p.m. in the Verizon Ballroom at the Union.
The events conclude on Sunday, Nov. 18 with Taste of Africa, hosted by the African Student Association at the Fayetteville Town Center and the Diwali Banquet at the Arkansas Union. Tickets are required for both events.
