Garvan Woodland Gardens is celebrating “Fall Flower Days” through Nov. 16. Volunteers and staff gardeners have planted about 8,000 chrysanthemums in a rainbow of colors throughout the flowering border areas of the gardens.

Summer’s blooms — with impatiens, begonias, and zinnias — and the foliage of coleus and caladiums have passed. But, this fall, the gardens are filled with the colors and shapes of one plant, the chrysanthemum. Their blooms last for weeks, not days, and they are even more impressive with their plethora of blooms per plant.

In addition, the gardens feature hundreds of asters, pansies, violas, million bells and petunias, plus the dramatic foliage of ornamental chard and mustards.

These fall beauties make it easy to see why Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs is ranked as one of the top five botanical gardens in the country.

Garvan Woodland Gardens is the botanical garden of the University of Arkansas.

The gardens are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $5 for children ages 6-12 and free for children ages 5 and younger.
