Jon David Adams, a University of Arkansas master’s student in kinesiology-exercise science, recently won a 2012 Central States American College of Sports Medicine Master’s Research Award.

The national organization is divided into districts. Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri make up the Central States district. Adams gave a research presentation at the University of Missouri in October titled “Effects of Obesity on Thermoregulation when Controlling Metabolic Heat Production During Exercise in the Heat.” The research award will pay for Adams to attend the national conference in Indianapolis in May.

Adams will complete a Master of Science in exercise science in December. He earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Harding University.

“The research that we do in the Human Performance Lab focuses on the maintenance of body temperature during exercise,” Adams said. “We look at variables such as hydration, core temperature and sweating.”

He plans to pursue a doctorate.
