FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Larry Foley, professor of journalism in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, has three documentary films that will have premiers and screenings over the coming weeks. Up Among the Hills, The Art of Crystal Bridges and Growing Hope will be featured at a variety of venues for public viewing.

Up Among the Hills, Foley’s newest film, will premiere on Friday, Oct. 19, at “Light Up the Night,” a sold-out black tie gala hosted by the Fayetteville Public Library. The film, narrated by President Bill Clinton, chronicles the story of Fayetteville. Other Fulbright College faculty members involved with the film include journalism instructor Hayot Tuchiev who served as editor and director of photography and music professor James Greeson who composed the score.

The Fayetteville Public Library will hold additional free screenings of Up Among the Hills at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, and at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, and Tuesday, Nov. 6.

The Art of Crystal Bridges, narrated by Academy Award winning actress and Arkansas native Mary Steenburgen, offers a look at what makes Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville a world-class art museum. The museum will host the film’s public premier at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9. The photography direction and score were provided by Tuychiev and Greeson, respectively. Dale Carpenter, professor of journalism and chair of the department, served as editor.

The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival will celebrate its 21st year Oct. 12- 21. The festival will feature The Art of Crystal Bridges at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Back-to-back screenings of The Art of Crystal Bridges, Up Among the Hills and Growing Hope will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20. All films will be shown at the Arlington Hotel.

Growing Hope won the Emmy for Special Program at the Mid-American Emmy Gala last month in Kansas City. The half-hour documentary tells the story of Fitz Hill, a former University of Arkansas assistant football coach and current president of Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock. Hill’s efforts have brought growth and stability to the college as well as the surrounding Little Rock neighborhoods. Fulbright College alumni Jim Borden and T.J. Holmes served as the film’s co-producer and narrator, respectively.
