Fulbright Scholar, Flamenco Guitarist to Visit Campus
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ronald Radford, known internationally as the American master of the Flamenco guitar, will give a concert at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the Fine Arts Center’s Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. The guest artist will also give a Flamenco guitar masterclass as part of his visit sponsored by the department of music in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.
Radford is the only individual ever to be awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in Flamenco guitar. He began his career as a student of the legendary Flamenco guitarist Carlos Montoya and studied classical guitar with Andres Segovia, and he traveled thousands of miles in Spain studying the music of the Spanish Gypsies.
His performances at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and educational institutions and concert halls around the world have earned him an international reputation. His music has taken him to 15 countries, from Australia to Switzerland and from Canada to Panama. He has toured for the State Department as a musical ambassador in Mexico, Guatemala and other Latin American.
Radford was born in California, grew up in Oklahoma and now lives in St. Louis, Missouri where he continues his career as one of the most successful ambassadors of Flamenco music in the world. His CD, Viva Flamenco!, and his DVD, Live Your Passion!, are available worldwide.
His Tuesday night concert is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Stadium Drive Parking Facility, where parking is free after 5 p.m. Entrance to the parking facility is on Stadium Drive, and the facility’s elevator will take patrons to street level directly across from the Fine Arts Center.
