Department of Music Announces Fall Performances
The department of music in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences has announced its schedule of upcoming performances for the 2012-2013 academic year. Concerts and recitals are held throughout the semester to showcase the talent of students, faculty and visiting musicians. All performances will be held at Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall unless otherwise indicated.
Performances featuring guest artists begin with Ronald Radford, who will give a recital on flamenco guitar at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 2. An international performer and Fulbright Scholar, Radford is the only person to receive a Fulbright scholarship to study flamenco.
On Thursday, October 11, Midwest Winds, the United States Air Force Woodwind Quintet, comes to campus. Soloists in their own right, these active duty Air Force members come together to create a versatile and unique sound. The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
Trombonist Brian Allen will take the stage on Wednesday, October 17. Allen has made a name for himself with his distinct mixture of jazz and pop. The performance is free and begins at 7:30 p.m.
Guest artist Cheryl Wefler joins faculty member Theresa Delaplain on Friday, November 16. Renowned experts on the oboe, the two will showcase the instrument’s unique sound. The concert is free and begins at 7:30 p.m. The department will hold "Oboemania!" the following day. It will include further performances and discussions on the oboe and reedmaking. The event begins at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 17.
Cactus Truck, an Amsterdam-based trio, will play their signature style of blues and jazz on Wednesday, December 5. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free to attend.
The Razorback Marching Band will be featured at every football game throughout the season. They may also be seen at the 2012 Razorback Band Spectacular that will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 5, in Barnhill Arena.
