Mathematics Professor Attends International Workshop
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Assistant professor Andrew Raich represented the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences department of mathematical sciences this summer at a workshop held June 5-8 in Levico Terme, a city in Italy’s northern Trento province.
The workshop brought together senior researchers as well as younger mathematicians to explore the relationships and dynamics of CR geometry and partial differential equations. Raich was among participants from across the United States, Europe and Asia who came to the small Italian city to share their research.
“The conference was an wonderful opportunity to present my work to many of the biggest experts in the field,” said Raich. “I am always amazed by how generous the luminaries in the field are with sharing ideas and techniques.”
Although both fields have influenced one another for the past half-century, fundamental questions remain and their interconnectedness with other mathematical fields has become a contemporary field of research.
The workshop was held in honor of mathematician Joseph J. Kohn’s eightieth birthday. This was the fifth conference on CR geometry and partial differential equations in Levico Terme., which have taken place every two years since 2004.
