University of Arkansas Brings ‘Smart911’ Service to Campus Community
An enhanced 9-1-1 emergency service, called Smart911, is now active and available to all members of the University of Arkansas community. Any student, faculty or staff member at the university can now create a personal, confidential Safety Profile that can be used in emergency situations. When someone places an emergency 9-1-1 call, the service provides that Safety Profile information automatically to emergency dispatchers.
Members of the campus community can create a personal, confidential Safety Profile at www.Smart911.com.
“The University of Arkansas Police Department encourages everyone on campus to create a personal Smart911 Safety Profile,” said Lt. Gary Crain, public information officer for UAPD. “Having more information is an immeasurable benefit to emergency responders. The profile can detail medical conditions or disabilities that help dispatchers understand more about a situation, or why a caller might be uncommunicative, expediting and supporting emergency responders. In any emergency, more information means greater effectiveness, saving time and helping save lives.”
Arkansas is the first state in the nation to offer Smart911 service statewide, and the University of Arkansas is one of the first agencies in the state to offer the enhanced service. The system was installed and UAPD finished testing it last week.
Smart911 is a private and secure nation-wide service developed by Rave Mobile Safety. It is a free service used by 9-1-1 centers and emergency management agencies across the country. Safety Profile information is only shared when a call is made to a 9-1-1 provider that subscribes to this service.
