Classes Offer Business Professionals Legal Updates About Health Care Reform, Labor Regulations

Registration is open for three workshops this fall to help business professionals stay current with legal issues regarding health care reform, National Labor Relations Board changes, and wage-and-hour regulations.

The University of Arkansas Global Campus and the law firm of Cross, Gunter, Witherspoon & Galchus, P.C. of Springdale will partner to offer these classes online and face-to-face at the Global Campus facility in at 3300 Market St. in Rogers.

Participants can register online at http://globalcampus.uark.edu/register. The Human Resource Certification Institute approved the Aug. 28 health care class for one hour of strategic credit toward recertification for professional in human resources, senior professional in human resources, and global professional in human resources. Participants can earn recertification credit for the other two classes, pending institute approval.

The classes are:

  • “Health Care Reform Update: How Will the Supreme Court Decision on Health Care Impact Your Business?” 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, face-to-face in Rogers, $39, one hour of strategic recertification credit.

This timely seminar will help employers understand and effectively implement the recently upheld regulations of the Affordable Care Act. By 2014, employers must be prepared for the dramatic ways in which the reform will impact their bottom lines and business strategies.

  • “National Labor Relations Board Update,” 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, face-to-face and online, $49, 1.5 hours of recertification credit, pending institute approval.

Changes in the makeup of the National Labor Relations Board and potential legislative action suggest that all businesses must be prepared for potential impact to their operations. Participants will explore proactive steps to minimize risks.

  • “Fair Labor Standards Act Update,” 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25, face-to-face and online, $49, 1.5 hours of recertification credit, pending institute approval.

The class will spotlight the most prevalent wage-and-hour issues, including miscalculation of employees, calculating overtime, donning and doffing, training time, meal breaks, exempt status, and bonuses. It is designed to help employers recognize problems and find steps to avoid liability.
