The track and field competition is underway in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, and 12 current and former Razorbacks are representing their respective countries and the University of Arkansas. You can follow their progress at the 2012 Olympic Central page or @RazorbackTF on Twitter.

The opening day of the competition at Olympic Stadium featured current student-athletes Regina George in the women’s 400 meters and Raymond Higgs in the long jump, former Razorbacks Veronica Campbell-Brown and Kerri-Ann Mitchell in the women’s 100 meters and Samuel Vazquez in the men’s 1,500 meters.

Overall, the list of Razorbacks include current student-athletes George (Nigeria), Higgs (Bahamas), Ivanique Kemp (Bahamas), Marek Niit (Estonia) and Tina Sutej (Slovenia) and former standouts Campbell-Brown (Jamaica), Mitchell (Canada), Vazquez (Puerto Rico), Alistair Cragg (Ireland), Tyson Gay (USA), Jeremy Scott (USA) and Wallace Spearmon, Jr. (USA). In a show of the University of Arkansas track and field program’s global reach, the 12 Razorbacks are representing nine different countries.

The track and field competition at the Olympic Games continues through Aug. 12 with several Razorbacks carrying relay duties for their countries in addition to their individual events. Relay competition begins Aug. 9.
