National Expert Talks to Department Heads, Chairs on Faculty Civility

Kent Weeks, author of In Search of Civility: Confronting Incivility on the College Campus and faculty member at Vanderbilt University, was on campus last week meeting with department heads/ chairs, associate deans, deans and faculty leadership about civility on campus and engendering a healthy departmental climate.

Weeks offered suggestions and information on national trends on student as well as faculty civility and collegiality. Weeks discussed the advantages of having a statement relative to civility in the faculty handbook and noted that several universities have moved in that direction.

Participants of the workshop have indicated that they will continue to engage in conversations about professionalism and fostering positive working environments in all the units on the U of A campus.
