Students, Faculty and Alumnus Appear at Crystal Bridges Event
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The UA Jazz Ensemble and university professors will participate in Edible Culture, part of Crystal Bridges’ Art Night Out series, from 7 to 10 p.m. on April 26.
The event includes an Ozark-style culinary show: Art and Food, Food as Art led by Crystal Bridges’ culinary team. The show highlights the cultural history of art and food including the local farming community of Northwest Arkansas.
Between shows, attendees are invited to dance to Big Band music provided by the UA Jazz Ensemble, directed by James Greeson, professor of music in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. In the galleries, university students will play live music including a string quartet, Gypsy jazz quintet, flute duo, percussion/marimba performers and classical guitar duo.
Horticulture experts will also give Art Talks in the galleries. John Clark, professor of horticulture in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences will share his expertise as will Cody George, field horticulturist for Crystal Bridges and graduate of Bumpers College. Clark leads the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture's fruit breeding program, which includes blackberries, grapes, muscadine, peaches, nectarines and blueberries. Blackberry varieties from the Arkansas breeding program are widely grown in the United States and at least 10 other countries.
Edible Culture is designed to bring the Ozark community together to enjoy the local flavors that surround Crystal Bridges in the spring. Tickets are $25 for non-members with a 10 percent discount for members, and light appetizers will be served in the museum’s restaurant, Eleven. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for ticketing and the event starts at 7 p.m. The Museum will be closed to the public, including those planning to attend Art Night Out, from 6 to 6:30 p.m. to prepare for the event.
