Wave Goodbye to Unwanted, Unsolicited Postal Junk Mail
Tired of receiving unwanted, unsolicited postal mail? Are you concerned that natural resources are turned into junk? Do you want to help the University of Arkansas beat the SEC in RecycleMania? If you answered yes to any of these questions, participate in Operation: Opt Out.
The Office for Campus Sustainability is will host “Operation: Opt Out,” an event to reduce the amount of unsolicited mail on-campus. Student volunteers will be dispensing information to individuals who are interested in cutting junk mail out of their lives.
"Opting Out" describes the easy way to remove your name from distribution lists. All that is needed is access to the Internet, a few resources on Opting Out, and a few minutes.
Junk mail is responsible for deforestation, air pollution due to intensive energy use, water pollution, and the entire supply chain wastes a substantial amount of time sorting, mailing, and recycling .
This is a very easy, and personally satisfying, way to help further sustainability initiatives on campus. It also helps the University of Arkansas compete better in the RecycleMania Competition.
