Susan Schneider, a University of Arkansas law professor won the Professional Scholarship Award from the American Agricultural Law Association for her article “A Reconsideration of Agricultural Law: A Call for the Law of Food, Farming, and Sustainability.” Schneider, who is director of the graduate program in Agricultural and Food Law, also was named to the editorial board of Agriculture and Food Security, a peer-reviewed journal published in London.

“The School of Law community is thrilled that professor Schneider has been recognized by her peers as one of the top scholars in the field,” said Stacy L. Leeds, dean of the School of Law. “The recognition of professor Schneider’s scholarly endeavors enhances the international reputation of one law school's signature programs – the nation’s only LL.M. in agricultural and food law.”

In her award-winning article, Schneider, who is also the author of the 2011 book Food, Farming, and Sustainability: Readings in Agricultural Law, examines how American agricultural policy has evolved and how agricultural law as a discipline has tracked this policy. The article calls for a reconsideration of agricultural law and policy, arguing that the sustainable production of safe, healthy food should be the ultimate goal of both.
