Call for Proposals for Winthrop Rockefeller Distinguished Lecture Series

University of Arkansas faculty and professional and scientific staff are encouraged to propose speakers for the Winthrop Rockefeller Distinguished Lecture Series, which will provide a grant of $25,000 for a public lecture at the university in spring 2013. Chancellor G. David Gearhart has pledged matching support as needed and special events support as available.

Proposals should highlight the speakers’ ability to communicate ideas that stimulate public discussion, intellectual debate, and cultural advancements. Past Winthrop Rockefeller Distinguished Lecture Series speakers include Jonathan Kozol, W.S. Merwin, Billy Collins, Isabel Allende, Buzz Aldrin, Howard Zinn, and Daniel Janzen.

The two-page proposals should include:

  1. A summary of the achievements of the proposed distinguished lecturer, relevant contact information, and projected promotion plans for the lecture, and
  2. A summary of the projected budget, including estimated costs as well as estimated in-kind use of no-fee facilities, equipment, and personnel hours.

Proposals are due on or before March 28, 2012, to the attention of Kathryn Sampson, 260 Waterman Hall, Leflar Law Center, ksampson@uark.edu. The advisory committee will review the proposals and the winner will be announced on or before May 1, 2012.
