Obama Book Topic of Talk at Nightbird Books

President Barack Obama's relegation of some of his campaign initiatives to Congress and his retention of some George W. Bush-era policies and personnel are among the topics covered in a book edited by University of Arkansas political scientists. Andrew Dowdle, Dirk van Raemdonck and Robert Maranto will discuss The Obama Presidency: Change and Continuity, at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Nightbird Books in Fayetteville.

The book, published by Routledge, examines surprises during the first half of the Obama presidency.

Dowdle, a professor of political science; van Raemdonck, graduate coordinator for the department of education reform; and Maranto, holder of the Twenty-First Century Chair in Leadership, engaged prominent political scientists and public officials, including William Galston, a senior adviser to President Bill Clinton on domestic policy, to offer a midterm assessment of the Obama administration.
