College of Engineering Awards Students, Faculty and Staff

The College of Engineering recognized several students and faculty members at a meeting on Friday, May 6. Eight students received Outstanding Senior Awards from their departments: Katy Rutledge from biological and agricultural engineering; Nicole Lorenz from chemical engineering, Hung Nguyen from computer engineering; Akihiro Eguchi from computer science, Morgan Race from civil engineering, Brady Hurlburt from electrical engineering, Maci Dickson from industrial engineering and Rex Bair from mechanical engineering. Nicole Lorenz was named the College of Engineering Outstanding Senior.

Rex Bair, Charles Jones and Hung Nguyen were recognized as First Ranked Senior Scholars for having achieved a 4.0 grade point average for coursework completed on this campus. David Barnard, Kylan Rakestraw and Andrea Samuel received Senior Scholar Awards, for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average that included transfer credits. Gurjit Singh received the George and Marion Branigan Senior Engineering Scholarship, which goes to the rising engineering senior with the highest grade point average, and Samantha Puckett was recognized for being selected as a Presidential Scholar by the university.

In addition, five students received the Porter Stone Coop Award, which is given to engineering students who have excelled in cooperative education: Zack Fricke, Kean Ho, Xiangyn Liu, Artsiom Revin and Jonathan Tran.

Each engineering department also presented Outstanding Teacher, Outstanding Researcher and Outstanding Service to Students awards to members of its faculty. The following faculty received awards:

  • Biological Engineering: Scott Osborn, Outstanding Teacher; Brian Haggard, Outstanding Researcher; Julie Carrier, Outstanding Service to Students.
  • Chemical Engineering: Christa Hestekin, Outstanding Teacher; Keith Roper, Outstanding Researcher; Ed Clausen, Outstanding Service to Students.
  • Civil Engineering: Ernie Heymsfield, Outstanding Teacher; Brady Cox, Outstanding Researcher; Norman Dennis, Outstanding Service to Students
  • Computer Science and Computer Engineering: Dale Thompson, Outstanding Teacher; Nilanjan Banerjee, Outstanding Researcher; Gordon Beavers, Outstanding Service to Students
  • Electrical Engineering: Roy McCann, Outstanding Teacher; Fisher Yu, Outstanding Researcher; Jiangxian Wu, Outstanding Service to Students
  • Industrial Engineering: Manuel Rossetti, Outstanding Teacher; C.S. Nam, Outstanding Researcher; Ed Pohl, Outstanding Service to Students
  • Mechanical Engineering: Leon West, Outstanding Teacher; Ajay Malshe, Outstanding Researcher; Bill Springer, Outstanding Service to Students.

Cindy Pickney was named the College of Engineering Employee of the Semester, and Ben Fleming was recognized as the College of Engineering Employee of the Year.
