Northwest Arkansas Regional Science and Engineering Fair Set for March 11

Students in fifth through 12th grades will compete Friday, March 11, in the Northwest Arkansas Regional Science and Engineering Fair on the University of Arkansas campus. University faculty members and graduate students will serve as judges for the fair coordinated by Lynne Hehr, director of the university's STEM Center for Mathematics and Science Education.

Projects may be viewed between noon and 3 p.m. in the Verizon Ballroom in the Arkansas Union. Judging takes place from 9 a.m. to noon with the award ceremony to begin at 4:30 p.m.

Jim Rankin, University of Arkansas vice provost for research and economic development, will give welcoming remarks.

Categories for judging are animal sciences, behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, chemistry, computer science, earth and planetary science, energy and transportation, engineering: electrical/mechanical, engineering: materials/bioengineering, environmental management, environmental sciences, mathematical sciences, medicine and health sciences, microbiology, physics and astronomy, and plant sciences. Senior Division winners advance to the state Science and Engineering Fair in Conway on April 1 and 2. Overall Senior Division winners and their teachers will be sponsored to attend the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles in May.
