Journalism Students, Faculty and Alumni Earn Emmy Awards

University of Arkansas journalism students, faculty and alumni received Emmy awards Saturday in St. Louis from the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Two student documentaries were honorned with Student Emmy awards. Brian Petty won for his masters thesis film, Finders Keepers: The Arkansas Diamond Legacy. Graduate students Jesse Abdenour and Tony Cosgrove were recognized for their film, Knocked Out? Aging Boxers Fight the Clock. These students studied under journalism professors Larry Foley and Dale Carpenter.

Carpenter won an Emmy for editing the documentary film Sacred Spaces, the Architecture of Fay Jones. The film also received nominations for best musical score by University of Arkansas graduate Kevin Croxton. Carpenter and Foley were nominated in the category of best cultural documentary, and Carpenter was nominated for best photography. Sacred Spaces was made possible by the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and by the Don and Ellen Edmonson endowment at the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas.

University of Arkansas journalism alumus Chris Replogle, a news producer for KYTV in Springfield, Missouri won an Emmy for best morning newscast in markets 50 plus; fellow alumnus Brad Reed of KFTA/KNWA in northwest Arkansas won for anchoring in a top 50 plus evening newscast.
