Starters line up for the IceHogs' first game of the season on Friday.

After a decisive victory Friday night, the Razorbacks and University of Kansas both played a very physical game Saturday. At the end of the first period, Arkansas had six penalties to Kansas' 3, and the IceHogs were down 0-3.

The Hogs came out strong in the second period, scoring 2 goals (Trent Ritchie and Brad McMahon) within less than 30 seconds only 3 minutes into the period. The Hogs scored again (Billy Dolan) with about 3 minutes left in the period, but Kansas answered two of the Hogs' 3 goals to maintain the lead. The period ended with the Hogs trailing 3-5.

The physical play continued for both teams, but Kansas only scored one goal in the third period to Arkansas' 6, three within less than 3 minutes in the first half of the period (Taylor Shea, Justin Gaddy, and Johnny Stromp), and 2 more within 30 seconds in the second half of the period (Trent Ritchie and Johnny Stromp). Freshman forward Zach Pizzy scored the last goal of the game with less than 2 minutes remaining for a final score of Arkansas-9 and Kansas-6.

"Kansas is a good team," said Coach Gallini, "and it took both poise and mental composure to mount our comeback."

The Hogs will practice for the next two weeks in preparation for their next game against the University of Nebraska at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, and Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Jones Center in Springdale. Friday's game will be a Pink the Rink event. Players will wear pink jerseys in support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The jerseys will be auctioned off during the game, and proceeds will go to Komen Ozark. The team also sells razorback hockey apparel during every home game.
