Spring International to Host a Teaching Excellence Program for Turkish Students

Spring International Language Center, the intensive English language program at the University of Arkansas, has been selected to host 22 competitively selected English education students from a variety of universities throughout Turkey. The Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Program will take place from Aug. 1 through Sept. 9.

Funded through a grant from the United States Department of State, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs and administered by International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), the program is designed to give the TEA participants a cross-cultural experience, teaching strategies, and practical teaching experience in secondary schools around the northwest Arkansas area.

The student teachers will learn about teaching methods used in U.S. classrooms while giving them an opportunity to share their culture with American audiences. The participants will learn about student-centered teaching methods and the use of technology in teaching, gain practical experience through their teaching practicum with mentor teachers, and attend professional development seminars on numerous pedagogical topics.
