Razorbacks Selected for NCAA Forum
A trio of Razorback student-athletes are participating in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum this week in Indianapolis, Ind. Jeff Peterson of the men's basketball team, Camille Flores of the soccer team and Phoebe Bautista of the volleyball team are three of 417 student-athletes from across the nation that were selected to participate in the forum which explores careers in sports.
The NCAA Career in Sports Forum began Tuesday, May 11, and it will run through Friday, May 14 at the Downtown Marriott in Indianapolis, Ind. While exploring career opportunities in sport, the primary focus of the event is on collegiate athletics and will feature two tracks for participants to explore, coaching and athletic administration.
"We are excited that Jeff, Camille and Phoebe have been selected to participate in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum," vice chancellor and director of athletics Jeff Long said. "The seminar offers a tremendous opportunity to learn about potential career choices in athletics. Through the sports forum and other student-athlete development programs, we are able to equip our more than 460 student-athletes with skills that will help them in their athletic careers and beyond."
Programs for the four-day event will cover aspects of communication, networking, recruiting, managing culture, transitioning and budgeting. Those following the administration track will also participate in programs that cover academics, compliance, facilities, life skills, marketing and promotions and sports information.
Peterson is a junior for the Razorbacks who sat out the 2009-10 season due to NCAA transfer rules.A highly recruited player from Springfield, Mo., he turned down several Ivy League scholarships to attend Iowa before coming to Arkansas.
Flores is a three-year letterwinner for the Razorback soccer program and has two goals in 56 games as a midfielder. Last season, the Chino Hills, Calif., native made six starts in 18 games with nine shots on goal.
A libero, defensive specialist from Oakland, Calif., Bautista redshirted her freshman year with the Razorbacks before stepping into a starting role in 2008 and continuing in that spot last season. She led the team in digs with 477 last year, nearly twice the number of any of her teammates and was just one of two Razorback players to see action in 121sets.
