Fifteenth Annual Razorback Band Spectacular Tuesday, Nov. 10

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas Razorback Marching Band, complete with university cheerleaders, mascots, majorettes, twirlers and flag line, will perform its 15^th annual Band Spectacular at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Barnhill Arena. The concert is free to the public and will feature University of Arkansas spirit songs and highlights from this year’s halftime shows, such as music from the movie Back to the Future and “Bohemian Rhapsody.” In 2006, the band was awarded the Sudler Trophy, the nation's highest and most coveted award for college and university marching bands.

Christopher Knighten, the new director of the athletic bands and associate professor in the University of Arkansas department of music, has put together a show that will delight and entertain the audience. He has also dedicated a portion of the concert to pay tribute to all United States veterans.

During this special veteran’s tribute, the band will honor two special guests and former U.S. military service men, Charles Scharlau, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and Col. Eddie Bradford, who served in the U.S. Army.

“Both Scharlau and Bradford have been exceptional friends to the University of Arkansas and Razorback Band,” said Knighten. “Through their great leadership and service, they have shown the community their dedication to the success of higher education.”

The Marching Razorbacks have performed at numerous bowls, including the Las Vegas, Citrus, two Cotton, Sugar, Gator, Liberty, Independence, Orange, Hall of Fame, Dixie, Fiesta, Holiday, Bluebonnet, and Carquest bowls, as well as performing the half-time show of Dallas Cowboys football games. The band has also performed with "Doc" Severinson and Jimmy Walker, and has played for such dignitaries as President John F. Kennedy and Gen. Norman Schwartzkopf. In 1992, the band participated in the Presidential Inaugural Parade. In April of 2000, the University of Arkansas Wind Symphony performed in world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York City as a part of Carnegie Hall's Distinguished Ensemble Debut Series.
