Update: Three Private Contractors Killed in Accident While Preparing for Recreational Event; Three Injured

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - On Thursday, Oct. 14, six people were shocked while moving a tent on a site at the Agricultural Research and Extension Center, located east of Arkansas 112 (Garland Avenue) and west of Gregg Avenue. Three of the six men died as a result of injuries suffered in the accident.

According to the University of Arkansas Police Department, the accident occurred when the tent's supports came in contact with a high voltage line.

The accident occurred at about 10:17 a.m. Police said the tent had been assembled and that the six who were injured decided to move it intact. Officials believe that when the men lifted the tent, its supports touched a high voltage line, sending an electrical current through the tent's metal support frame.

Five of the men were members of a private firm's work crew, preparing for a recreational event scheduled at the park. The sixth was involved with the organization and promotion of the event.

All six men were transported to Washington Regional Medical Center, where three were later pronounced dead.

The three who died were identified as: Kevin D. White of Fayetteville, Roderick M. Cook of Cave Springs, and David G. Koch of Springdale.

The three survivors, all currently listed in "good" condition, are: Anthony McEntire of Fayetteville, Chris Wilson of Huntsville and Bruce Dunn of Fayetteville.

None of the men involved in the accident were students or employees of the university.
