FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Oklahoma students, meet the University of Arkansas. The University of Arkansas is hosting a recruitment jamboree for prospective students and their families from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Doubletree Hotel, at 6110 South Yale St. in Tulsa.

The University hopes to provide prospective students from Oklahoma high schools and the Tulsa Community College with information needed to make informed decisions about the opportunities offered at the University of Arkansas. This includes the possibility of receiving Arkansas-resident tuition. The University of Arkansas offers in-state tuition rates to Oklahoma students with an ACT of 24 and a high school grade-point-average of 3.0.

"The University of Arkansas can provide a high-quality education close to home. Qualified Oklahoma students are eligible for Arkansas resident tuition, which can be a tremendous help to students struggling with the means to seek higher education," said Chancellor John A. White, who will headline the event.

Students attending the event are encouraged to fill out an application to attend the University of Arkansas. Those who do so, will receive the benefit of a waived admission application fee, a value of $30. Those students attending who have already filled out an application will receive a refund if they notify any admissions counselor at the event.

Additionally, guests will have the opportunity to speak with White as well as with Johnetta Cross Brazzell, vice-chancellor for Student Affairs, and Arlene Cash, dean for Enrollment Services.

The seven undergraduate schools and colleges of the University of Arkansas—agricultural, food and life sciences; architecture; arts and sciences; business; education and health professions; engineering; and the new University of Arkansas Honors College—will staff information booths and have representatives available to meet individually with students about the various areas of study offered at the University.

UA admissions officers will be on site to provide additional information and talk one-on-one with guests. Representatives also will be available to provide information about other aspects of the University, including financial aid and scholarships, housing, study abroad, Greek life, campus activities and other aspects of the college experience. Guests will also have the opportunity to ask questions of a panel of University of Arkansas students.

The University also will hold drawings for four $100 gift certificates to be used at the University of Arkansas Bookstore.

Families are encouraged to attend, bringing with them not only high school juniors and seniors, but younger brothers and sisters who might be interested in someday attending the University of Arkansas.
