UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS TELEVISION PROMOTIONAL SPOT WINS RECOGNITION IN ADMISSIONS MARKETING COMPETITION

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The University of Arkansas halftime spot, a 30-second commercial that is aired during televised Razorback sporting events, has been named a merit award winner in the 17th Annual Admissions Advertising Awards.

The contest is sponsored by Admissions Marketing Report, the national publication for admissions marketing.

University Relations won in the category of television advertising/ single spot, for schools with 10,000 or more students. The University of Arkansas won the merit award, along with the University of Massachusetts at Boston and Moraine Valley Community College in Illinois.

The University of Montana won the gold, the University of Albany won the silver, and Northern Arizona University won the bronze award in this category.

Rebecca Wood, manager of media relations, produced the spot in conjunction with Ozark Film and Video Productions Inc. of Springdale, Ark. "I find it very rewarding for my work in video production to be recognized among such notable competition," Wood said. "I must give much of the credit to the staff of Ozark Film and Video because they have a knack for taking our ideas and polishing them into award-winning videos."

The spot featured nine UA students who each received top national scholarships last year that are normally reserved for students at Harvard, Brown, Yale, or Princeton, and other such academically renowned universities. The U of A was actually the only school in the nation to capture this particular assortment of prestigious national scholarships. The scholarship recipients and their respective awards are as follows: David Norris, Morris Udall Scholar; Anna Terry, Rhodes Scholar; Ben Hood, Erin Scherer, and Matthew Whitley, Barry Goldwater Scholars; Megan Ceronsky, Marshall Scholar; and Elizabeth Dunn and Laura Fields, National Science Foundation Fellows.

"It was very important to the University that we showcase the incredibly talented students who are thriving on our campus and on the national academic scene," Wood said.

This year is the fifth time University Relations has been recognized with an award in the admissions marketing competition.
