UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS PREPARES FOR CAMPAIGN KICK OFF WITH STUDENT-CENTERED CONTEST

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas is preparing to kick off the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century on Oct. 26, by initiating a student banner competition to be held Oct. 23.

The banner competition is being held to inform the student community about the forthcoming Campaign for the Twenty-First Century and to encourage their participation in Campaign events. Application forms are due to the Office of Constituent Relations on Oct. 15.

Student organizations that wish to participate in the banner competition are asked to illustrate their view of the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century. The banners will be displayed outside residence halls, fraternity and sorority houses and in other locations during the week of Oct. 23. The student organization with the winning banner will receive a check for $300 and a trophy. Second and third place prizes will also be awarded. The winning organization will be announced at the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century kick off on Oct. 26.

The outdoor kick-off rally will be held on the plaza between Mullins Library and the Arkansas Union and free hotdogs, cookies, popcorn and soft drinks will be served starting at 11:45 a.m. All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend this event.

UA Chancellor John A. White said, "We recognize the importance of students being involved in the Campaign for the Twenty-First Century. As a key component of the Campaign we will raise funds to support students, faculty, academic programs, University Libraries and capital funding. We hope UA students are as excited as we are about this endeavor. The Campaign for the Twenty-First Century will provide resources that will be essential for us to realize our vision of emerging as a nationally competitive, student-centered research university serving Arkansas and the world."
