University of Arkansas Kicks off Fall 2004 Semester with Third Annual Academic Convocation

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - As part of the First Year Experience for incoming students at the University of Arkansas, the third annual Academic Convocation will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, August 22, in Bud Walton Arena. Media parking is available in Lot 46, located west of the arena.

"Convocation is wonderful experience for everyone involved with the university," said Johnetta Cross Brazzell, vice chancellor for Student Affairs. "The ceremony replicates commencement, demonstrating the students' ultimate purpose here at the university. It also allows faculty and staff members to pledge their vow to assisting our students achieve that goal."

Scheduled speakers include Chancellor John A. White, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Bob Smith and Vice Chancellor Brazzell. There will also be two student research projects from the College of Engineering and the Sam M. Walton College of Business presented during the ceremony.

More than 120 faculty members will also be on-hand to welcome the university's incoming class, and a Burger Bash on the arena lawn will follow the proceedings.
