UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS HIRES GREEK LIFE OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas Division of Student Affairs has hired Scott Walter as Greek Life operations director, a new position at the University.

As operations director, Walter will have primary responsibility for overseeing the fraternities, advising the Interfraternity Council and coordinating the general operation of Greek houses on the UA campus.

"Mr. Scott Walter brings a wealth of experience, both in working with Greek programs as well as other experiences in Student Affairs," said Jim Conneely, assistant vice chancellor for Student Affairs. "I believe he will add significantly in assisting the Greek program on the University of Arkansas campus in moving forward and becoming a model program."

He will serve as the main contact/advisor for the fraternities and the Interfraternity Council, and he will work with each chapter to ensure that it continues to meet the expectations from its national headquarters and the U of A. Walter said he will challenge each group to continue to look for ways to improve each chapter, both internally and externally.

Walter will be working with the fraternity chapters to improve and maintain the overall

living environment of each Greek organization. His first priority will be working to help make

students and alumni aware of "life safety" issues. He will also work on identifying future improvement projects (new floors, new a/c units, etc.) and set timelines.

"I am excited about the opportunity to take on the new role of director of Greek Life operations," Walter said. "The creation of this position will allow two full-time staff members to work with the Greek community. With the help of students, alumni and the University, the potential for continued success in the Greek system is unlimited. I hope to challenge all of

those involved with the Greek system to continually improve."

Walter has worked in operations management and the academic environment since 1994. Before coming to the U of A, he was owner/manager of The Last Mile, Inc., where he managed the day-to-day operations of a specialty running store in Fayetteville. He served as assistant dean of students at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he managed the university judicial process and advised the Student Government Association and student senate. He also supervised and provided support for the office of Greek Affairs and established priorities regarding fraternity housing.

He spent four years at Lehigh University, where he served as assistant dean of students and Greek affairs coordinator. As assistant dean of students, he was responsible for the department of Residence Life and Greek Affairs and coordinated and reviewed short and long-range planning and development of the office to ensure commonality of overall direction with the goals of the dean of students office.

In the office of Greek Affairs, Walter advised individual chapter officers on areas of chapter management, responded to concerns, complaints, questions and requests from alumni, faculty, parents, students and the local community. He also advised the IFC, Panhellenic Council and the university judicial boards as well.

Walter is a National Association of Student Personnel Administrators member, a member of the Association of Fraternity Advisors and is an American College Personnel Association member.

Walter received his bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and earned his master's degree from the University of Arkansas.
