UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS ANNOUNCES THE ARRIVAL OF STUDENT WEB REGISTRATION

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark-The Office of the Registrar is pleased to announce the arrival of student Web Registration. It is an in-house student web registration system that will be used temporarily until the implementation of the PeopleSoft system is complete. Students currently use Hogcall, the University’s telephone registration system.

The first step of implementation was the administrative web site that allows dean and departmental offices to perform administrative changes to a student’s current schedule. This site has been available for administrative changes during peak registration periods during the semester to test the impact on the University’s computer resources.

The final stages of testing for the student registration site are currently in process. Staff members of the Registrar’s Office have selected a random group of students from the student body and performed mock registration on the Web Registration test site. Staff members tried to simulate all factors that could, and do, cause complications to students while registering for classes on Hogcall, and they tested the site to ensure that it is operating properly before it is made available to the campus community.

A randomly selected group of students will be asked to participate in testing the Web Registration site at the end of the fall 2002 semester. Students will be asked to make changes and/or register for the spring 2003 semester, and the Registrar’s Office will monitor the changes as they are made to the student’s schedule, to help staff evaluate if changes were necessary before general access is given to the campus. Students will give feedback to the Registrar’s Office, voicing their opinions on how the site performed and their overall satisfaction.

Web Registration will allow students to see their proposed schedules before they register for the semester, and they will be able to register for their entire schedules all at one time. Currently, students register for one class at a time on Hogcall.

If a problem is encountered with a class on a student’s proposed schedule through Web Registration, it can be removed and the student can search for another class or continue the registration.

The project schedule for the general release date of Web Registration will be early spring 2003 semester. The site will be available for priority registration for the fall/summer 2003 semester in March and April.

Hogcall will still be available for those students who do not have a home computer, but students will have access to the web application through computer labs on campus.
