University of Arkansas Announces Candidates for Walton College Dean’s Position

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Four candidates for the position of dean of the Sam M. Walton College of Business will visit the University of Arkansas campus during the month of April. As part of the interview process, the candidates will meet with the campus community.

In November, after 12 years as dean of the Walton College, Doyle Z. Williams, Ph.D., CPA, announced his intention to return to the classroom beginning in summer of 2005. Williams, 64, was appointed dean of the Walton College and the Sam M. Walton Leadership Chair in 1993. In February, the university created the Doyle Z. Williams Chair in Professional Accounting and named Dean Williams as the inaugural chair holder.

A search committee was appointed by Chancellor John A. White and Provost Bob Smith in December. The committee includes faculty, staff and students from the university, as well as community and business leaders from the region. Vice Chancellor for University Advancement G. David Gearhart chairs the search committee.

The search committee will present the candidates in the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Each candidate will conduct a 15-20 minute presentation and be available for questions following that presentation. The campus community and media are invited to attend.

Rajiv Grover

Rajiv Grover, head of the department of marketing and holder of the C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Chair in Marketing at the University of Georgia, will be introduced to the campus community at 3 p.m., Monday, April 11. Prior to joining the University of Georgia in his current capacity, Grover was the senior vice president of marketing and business development with a high-tech start-up company in Silicon Valley.

William Curington

William Curington, professor of economics and associate dean for Academic Affairs in the Walton College, will meet with the campus community at 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 12. Curington joined the university faculty in 1989. Since being named associate dean in 1996, he has led numerous initiatives within the college, including the implementation of a Graduate School of Business and the Walton College Honors Program.

Robert Nachtmann

Robert Nachtmann, professor of business administration (finance area) and executive associate dean of the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh, will conduct his presentation at 3:15 p.m., Monday, April 25. As executive associate dean, Nachtmann has assisted in the development of numerous programs within the graduate school and worked to reposition the Executive MBA program at the University of Pittsburgh from a local to a global program with five campuses throughout the world. He has been a member of the faculty since 1981.

Dan Worrell

Dan Worrell, dean of the College of Business Administration at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, will be introduced at 3:15 p.m., Friday, April 29. Worrell has served as dean of the College of Business and Administration since 1999. As dean, Worrell has assisted in raising more than $4.5 million in external development and renovated several rooms in the business building through the assistance of private and corporate gifts. Prior to serving as dean at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, Worrell served as interim dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Texas at Arlington from 1996-98.
