University Advancement’s 'Green’ Publication Going Campus-wide
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The third issue of GO! Green Outreach, an electronic publication dedicated to all things sustainable, was released to the University of Arkansas community this week. The publication is written and edited by Laura Jacobs and Danielle Strickland, both of university relations. It was conceived in fall 2007 by Vice Chancellor G. David Gearhart as an internal quarterly newsletter for the Division of Advancement.
“The publication was devised as a way to keep awareness about sustainability issues high among members of the division – and provide ideas that can be implemented on campus and at home,” Jacobs explained. “It has also become a place where the advancement sustainability task force can share the results of its ongoing work. Making GO! available campuswide seemed like the next logical step.”
GO! is now available to anyone who subscribes to Daily Headlines, or visits Daily Headlines on the university Web site. GO! will continue to be published every three months.
“This quarterly publication is a good way to keep people in the university community aware of things we are doing here to promote our sustainability goals,” said Nick Brown, executive assistant for sustainability at the university. “It’s also a way to pass along information about the everyday things we can all do at home or in the office to be environmentally responsible.”
A question and answer session with Brown is one of the features in the current issue of GO!, along with an update on the University Sustainability Council, a profile of an advancement staff member who is incorporating sustainability into daily life and 10 tips for making your home “greener.” The newsletter also contains a summary of a report from the Division of University Advancement Sustainability Task Force, which includes the results of a divisionwide survey and recommendations for sustainability initiatives at home, in the office and across the campus. The report is being distributed along with GO! as a separate PDF.
Each division on campus, as well as each college, is in the process of putting together its own sustainability report, and it’s expected that these will also be made available through GO! In addition, the editors are hoping for contributions from students, faculty and staff.
“We are looking for all kinds of articles, from anyone concerned about sustainability,” said Jacobs. “We also want to highlight the good efforts of our colleagues and would like to see this newsletter becoming a regular and sustainable publication.”
