UA Sets Campus Blood Drive for Terrorist Victims

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- The University of Arkansas will hold a blood drive for victims of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, in front of the University Museum on Garland Avenue. University students, faculty, and staff are urged to donate blood for this unprecedented national emergency.

For questions concerning the blood drive and additional blood drives next week, contact Reggie Houser, assistant director for safety, security and marketing in University Housing, at 575-3951.

In addition, the UA Office of Student Involvement and Leadership will be working in partnership with the American Red Cross in collecting donations for the National Disaster Relief Fund. Checks and cash will be accepted. There will be a table set up in front of the Arkansas Union from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, through Friday, Sept. 14. Persons may also bring their donations to Susan Stiers in room A665 in the Arkansas Union.

In a related development, Dr. Reed Greenwood, dean of the College of Education and Health Professions, reports that his wife, Dr. Mary Ann Greenwood, and her party of two employees and two student interns are returning to Fayetteville after their harrowing trip to New York and the World Trade Towers.

"I would like to thank all of the folks in the University of Arkansas and Fayetteville community for their many expressions of concern yesterday about the safety of Mary Ann and her group," Dean Greenwood said. "They are all safe and sound and should be getting back to town in the near future."

Mary Ann Greenwood, president of Greenwood & Associates, an investment advisory firm in Fayetteville, took a small group to New York on Sunday. The group included two employees, Tyler Fowlkes and Michael Britt, both University of Arkansas alumni, and two interns, Sam Terry and Jaime Stockton, both University of Arkansas students.

"The group was staying in the Marriott Hotel in the tower that was hit by the first airplane," Dean Greenwood said. "As they left the building, the saw the second plane hit the other tower."

Dean Greenwood added that Fowlkes and Stockton secured a rental car and have left the New York area for Fayetteville. Britt and Terry have done likewise and are trying to leave today. Mary Ann Greenwood has booked a flight and should be arriving at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport on Thursday, Dean Greenwood said.
