UA School Of Law And The J. William Fulbright College Of Arts & Sciences To Present Lecture Series
The University of Arkansas will present George P. Fletcher in a lecture series from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2 in the Leflar Law Center Courtroom at the University of Arkansas School of Law, where he will discuss his book The Three Nearly Sacred Books of Western Law.
The Cardozo Professor of Jurisprudence at Columbia University in New York City, Dr. Fletcher has taught in the law faculties at Boston College, Budapest, Brussels, Frankfurt, Florida, Harvard, Hebrew University, UCLA, Yale and Washington. He is a frequent guest lecturer to judicial and legal academies in Europe, Asia and South America. In the last year, Dr. Fletcher has addressed the legal advisers to the International Court of Justice in the Hague and the judiciary of the nation of Colombia. In the spring of 2002, he will give the distinguished Storrs lectures at the Yale School of Law.

Dr. Fletcher is best known in America for his work in the theory of criminal law, torts, jurisprudence, and constitutional law. He is better known internationally for his work in comparative and international law.
Fletcher has authored six books that have been translated in to half-dozen languages. He has won numerous awards for his works including the Silver Gavel from the American Bar Association for his book, A Crime of Self-Defense, and recognition by the Order of the Coif for one of the best books related to law published from 1976 to 1978, Rethinking Criminal Law.
He has just completed a major work on the history of equality in American constitutional history, Our Secret Constitution: How Lincoln Redefined American Democracy.
