UA Programming Teams Tops in Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Programming teams from the computer science and computer engineering department at the University of Arkansas swept the top honors at the annual Arkansas Collegiate Programming Contest on Feb. 24. The contest was sponsored by Acxiom Corporation and held at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
"We are proud that once more, our computer science and computer engineering students proved that the University of Arkansas has prepared them for the difficult challenges that they may face in the future," said Kazem Sohraby, head of the department.
Three of the 27 teams at the competition represented the University of Arkansas, competing in both the Computer Science and Computer Information Systems divisions. Teams hailed from throughout the state.
The contest challenged teams of three students to analyze and code the solutions to six or more problems within five hours. Each problem varied in degree of difficulty.
First place in the Computer Science division went to the UA team of Adam Brawner, senior; Quang Duong, freshman; and graduate student Michael Tinker.
First place in the Computer Information Systems division went to the team of Kevin Smith, junior; Minh Vu, senior; and John Wong, freshman.
Another CSCE team took sixth place in the Computer Science division, narrowly missing fourth place. The team was comprised of Shawn Canaday, Jonathan Schisler and Jeff Terrell, all seniors.
