UA PROFESSOR NAMED EDITOR OF NATIONAL COUNSELING JOURNAL

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Catherine Roland, UA associate professor of counselor education in the College of Education and Health Professions, will assume leadership of the national professional journal for her discipline.

The Board of Directors of the Association for Adult Development and Aging (AADA) has unanimously appointed Roland to a three-year term as editor of the Adultspan Journal. Adultspan is the official journal of the AADA, a division of the American Counseling Association.

"The college is proud of the contributions Dr. Roland has made nationally to the counseling profession," said Sharon B. Hunt, interim dean of the college. "As editor of a respected journal, she will have the opportunity to further influence the development of her profession."

A scholarly journal, Adultspan includes sections for both researchers and practitioners. It publishes current information on research, theory, and practice in adult development and aging, and related counseling issues.

Roland, who has been with the College of Education and Health Professions since 1993, is past president of AADA, is currently co-editor of Adultspan, and has served on several national journal editorial boards affiliated with the American Counseling Association.

Roland joins four colleagues in the College of Education and Health Professions who edit professional journals.

Two journals are edited by faculty in rehabilitation education and research. Douglas Watson, professor, edits the Journal of Interpretation, a scholarly journal that serves both the academic community and practitioner/interpreters worldwide. Brian Bolton, university professor, and Daniel Cook, professor, co-edit the Journal of Rehabilitation Education, the only voice nationally for rehabilitation educators.

Mary F. Hughes, assistant professor in education leadership, counseling and foundations, is executive editor of the Journal of Education Finance, a publication of the Association of School Business Officials International.

The Reading Teacher, edited by Priscilla Griffith, professor and head of the department of curriculum and instruction, is distributed to 70,000 education professionals internationally.
