UA Hosts National High School Talent
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — High school students from across the country who attend schools of mathematics, science and technology will convene at the University of Arkansas next week for the 14th annual Student Research Symposium, “Celebrating Discovery.” The national event will take place from Sunday, June 10, to Tuesday, June 11, with most of the activity centered at the Bell Engineering Center.
Forty-six students from 11 states have been conducting research projects for the past year, and will present their results from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, and continue Tuesday morning. The students will also have opportunities to visit with professors in their laboratories on campus, and tour the Engineering Research Center.
“This event helps encourage talented young students to pursue their interests in science, math and technology,” said Bob McMath, dean of the Honors College. “Hosting this event is a great opportunity for us to introduce these high-achieving students and their teachers to the University of Arkansas. It gives them a chance to get an idea of the good things happening here in their fields.”
The three days won’t be all work for the students. A picnic, area tours and a dance are among the activities they’ll enjoy while on campus.
The Honors College is co-hosting the event with the College of Engineering, the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences and the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.
