FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas is hosting the 14^th annual Semiconducting and Insulating Materials Conference May 15-20. The conference brings together outstanding academic and industrial researchers from more than 30 nations to discuss advances in nanotechnology and materials science. Conference sessions will be held at the Arkansas Union from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The mix of tutorials, technical papers and discussion sessions will help researchers identify opportunities for new science and technology to potentially revolutionize future electronic and optical devices.

The conference aims to build bridges between scientists pursuing materials research and application. The technical sessions encompass many new and developing topics, with presentations covering functional nanomaterials, compound and low-dimensional semiconductors and other specialized materials.

The conference is sponsored in part by the UA Center for Semiconductor Physics in Nanostructures and the National Science Foundation. The conference chair is Gregory J. Salamo, the Joe N. Basore Professor in Nanotechnology and Innovation and co-director of the Center for Semiconductor Physics in Nanostructures.
