Student Artists Invited to Participate in Holiday Art Competition

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — University of Arkansas undergraduate students talented in the visual arts are invited to enter the second annual Holiday Art Competition hosted by the Arkansas Alumni Association. The competition, with an artwork submission deadline of Oct. 14, will offer student artists the opportunity to win cash prizes and public renown for their work.

Art from any one of three disciplines - graphic design, painting/sketching or photography - will be accepted. The theme for this year’s competition is “Holiday traditions at the University of Arkansas.”

The grand prize and second place winners will receive $500 and $300, respectively, and recognition in the spring issue of Arkansas, the magazine of the Arkansas Alumni Association. The third place winner will receive $100 in cash and a certificate of accomplishment. A replication of the grand prize entry will be featured on the face of the Arkansas Alumni Association’s 2005 holiday greeting card.

All competition entries will be displayed to the general public at the Holiday Art Exhibit to be held at the Janelle Y. Hembree House during the month of December.

Following judging, and prior to the end of the fall semester, the winning artists will be honored and awarded prize money at a special reception.

All prospective art contestants should register for the competition by contacting Terry Bumgardner, director of communications for the Arkansas Alumni Association, at tbumgar@uark.edu  or (479) 575-6390, or by visiting www.arkalum.org/art for guidelines and registration form.
