SIFE to Host Events for Katrina Victims

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — On Saturday, Oct. 29, Northwest Arkansas Students in Free Enterprise (S.I.F.E.) will host two events to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims. The events will be at the Sam M. Walton College of Business in the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development on the University of Arkansas campus.

The first event, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is for elementary age children. The children will learn about entrepreneurship by starting their own tie-dye T-shirt business. The second is a financial and career-building workshop for all adults forced to relocate to Northwest Arkansas because of recent hurricanes. Both events are free to attendees.

"Kids in Business: Adding Color to the Hurricane" will walk kids through the different areas of business and allow them to create a tie-dye T-shirt business. After creating tie-dye T-shirts, the children will learn about pricing, placement and promotion in order to effectively sell their T-shirts. This program is open to all elementary age school children, but S.I.F.E. would like to extend a special invitation to all hurricane evacuees. All proceeds made from selling the T-shirts will be donated to hurricane relief efforts.

During the children’s event, S.I.F.E will host financial lessons and career development workshops for any adults who have relocated to Northwest Arkansas due to hurricane destruction. These sessions will be held at the same time and same location.

To sign up for either event, send e-mail to S.I.F.E. at sife@walton.uark.edu. For any questions, visit http://sife.uark.edu.

These events will be held by S.I.F.E. students from the Northwest Arkansas Community College and the University of Arkansas.
