School of Law to Host Regional Trial Competition
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas School of Law will play host to the Region IX National Trial Competition on Friday, Feb. 18, and Saturday, Feb. 19, in courtrooms throughout Fayetteville.
A total of 20 teams representing 10 schools will compete in the regional tournament with preliminary rounds slated for 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday. After the second preliminary round, the top eight teams will advance to Saturday’s 9 a.m. semifinal rounds with the finals slated for 2 p.m. that afternoon.
The two teams with the highest cumulative point total will advance to the National Trial Competition to be held March 30 through April 6 in San Antonio, Texas.
In addition to the University of Arkansas, the other nine schools scheduled to compete include: Drake University, Marquette University, St. Louis University, University of Arkansas-Little Rock, University of Iowa, University of Missouri-Columbia, University of Missouri-Kansas City, University of Wisconsin and Washington University in St. Louis.
Schedule of competition:
1 p.m. Friday — Preliminary round, five trials in the Washington County Courthouse;
1 p.m. Friday — Preliminary round, two trials in the old Washington County Courthouse, and one each in the Washington County Circuit Court Juvenile Division, U.S. Federal Courthouse and Fayetteville District Court;
6 p.m. Friday — Preliminary round, five trials in the Washington County Courthouse;
6 p.m. Friday — Preliminary round, two trials in the old Washington County Courthouse, and one each in the Washington County Circuit Court Juvenile Division, U.S. Federal Courthouse and Fayetteville District Court;
9 a.m. Saturday — Semifinal rounds, four trials in the Washington County Courthouse;
2 p.m. Saturday — Final rounds, two trials in the Washington County Courthouse.
